Past Symposia and Conferences

NAFO also organizes symposia, conferences, and scientific workshops, and it sponsors invited speakers to Scientific Council meetings and other scientific NAFO events. NAFO hosted the Elasmobranch Symposium (2002), a mini-Symposium on Environmental Conditions in NAFO Waters (2003), a Geostatistics Workshop (2003), and a Symposium on the Flemish Cap Ecosystem (2004).

22 August 2022

ICES/NAFO Symposium on Decadal Variability of the North Atlantic and its Marine Ecosystems: 2010-2019

Bergen, Norway: 20 – 22 June 2022

The Standing Committee on Fisheries Environment (STACFEN) of NAFO was present during the symposium, ICES-NAFO 4th Decadal Variability of the North Atlantic and its Marine Ecosystems: 2010–2019, held in Bergen, Norway (20 – 22 June 2022). Frederic Cyr and Paula Fratantoni from STACFEN were members of the symposium's scientific committee, bridging ICES and NAFO scientists to challenges associated with changes in the climate-ocean system in the North Atlantic.

Reproductive and Recruitment Processes of Exploited Marine Fish Stocks (2007)

1–3 October 2007, Lisbon, Portugal

The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO), the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES), and the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), announce a joint symposium on "Reproductive and Recruitment Processes of Exploited Marine Fish Stocks", to be held on 1-3 October 2007, at the Altis Hotel, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The symposium will provide a scientific forum to present and discuss study findings on reproduction, early life history and recruitment of exploited marine finfish and invertebrate stocks. Continued low abundance and low recruitment of many stocks necessitates a broad examination of key biological processes underlying potential stock recovery.
