Applications for ECOFISH Expert Positions

International MCS Network

Expert A: Senior Expert in Regional fisheries MCS strategic and planning (1.5 months, beginning April 2020)

Qualifications and skills:

 

  • At least a Master's degree in Fisheries, Biology, Sea Sciences or equivalent relevant to the assignment.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Fluency in French.

General professional experience:

  • Preferably more than 15 years of professional experience in the field of fisheries monitoring control and surveillance relevant to the program

Specific professional experience:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the field of strategic and planning fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance.
  • Experience in the Port State Measures
  • Experience in management and training of inspectors
  • Experience in new surveillance technologies like drones and satellite images.
  • Experience in administrative tasks related to fisheries surveillance specially related to the costs of equipment's and operations.
  • Knowledge of the fisheries sector in the ESA-IO region would be an advantage.

Expert B: Senior Expert in Fisheries Surveillance Operations and New Technologies (4 weeks, beginning April 2020)

Qualifications and skills:

  • At least a Master's degree in Fisheries, Biology, Sea Sciences or equivalent relevant to the assignment.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Fluency in French.

General professional experience:

  • Preferably more than 10 years of professional experience in the field of fisheries management and/or fisheries monitoring control and surveillance relevant to the program

Specific professional experience:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the field of fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in the field of fisheries surveillance operations.
  • Experience in new surveillance technologies like drones and satellite images.
  • Experience in administrative tasks related to fisheries surveillance specially related to the costs of operations.
  • Experience at sea on board of fishing vessels or patrols would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the fisheries sector in the ESA-IO region would be an advantage.

Expert C: Senior Expert in VMS, Satellite and new surveillance Technologies Expert (4 weeks, beginning April 2020)

Qualifications and skills:

  • At least a Master's degree in Fisheries, Biology, Sea Sciences or equivalent relevant to the assignment.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Fluency in French.

General professional experience:

  • Preferably more than 10 years of professional experience in the field of fisheries management and/or fisheries monitoring control and surveillance relevant to the program

Specific professional experience:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the field of fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the use of VMS and satellite surveillance.
  • Experience in new satellite surveillance technologies.
  • Experience in administrative tasks related to fisheries surveillance specially related to the costs of equipment's and operations.

Knowledge of the fisheries sector in the ESA-IO region would be an advantage

40th Anniversary Training Programme on
OCEAN GOVERNANCE: POLICY, LAW AND MANAGEMENT

20th May – 17th July 2020 (to be confirmed).

Objectives
The individual will gain experience and knowledge in operations of NAFO as an intergovernmental organization while the NAFO Secretariat will benefit through the presence of an additional professional and his/her capacity and knowledge.

Nature of the Internship
Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, interns will work on project(s) at the Secretariat relevant to their professional interests, scholarship programs and development needs. Interns may be given a wide variety of tasks related to various aspects of:

  • fisheries management
  • fisheries science
  • databases
  • administrative, meeting coordination, publications; and
  • other NAFO activities delegated by the Executive Secretary.
